St. Patrick Green

Happy Thursday All,

A very Happy St. Patrick's Day to everyone. Hope you're wearing something green!

As far as I know, there's no Irish in my blood; but I do have an appreciation for the Irish people--I've met a few and they're fun, funny and wonderful folks.

There's often a lot of myth associated with St. Patrick, but EWTN.com tries hard to give factual information about this elusive man (who was a real person, by the way). Wikepedia has some information as wellThe Catholic Encyclopedia also has information on St. Patrick.

So what green thing are you wearing today?

Have A Tip Top Thursday!

It's Thursday. That means I'm wearing my green hospital volunteer uniform today. Don't even have to think about it.

Although the biggest ethnic influence in my life was my mother's northern Italian link,(even though she was born here, her parents and oldest siblings were born in Umbria and Italian was her first language), we cannot escape our father's mostly Irish heritage, as we resemble that ide more(!).
My sister and I both use our maiden name,"Joyce" when we write, since we not only started writing before we maried but gee, no-brainer...if anyone wanted to make a mental connection, why not?
Did you know that the poet Joyce Kilmer,("I think that I shall never see a poem as lovely as a tree..."),was realted to James Joyce(we can't prove a connection ourselves) and that "Joyce" is actually his middle name?
We figure, if we come by it naturally, why not use it?
We will gladly acceot you into the fold today, Bethany, (or any day!) Glad to see 'the wearin' of the green' is in full force. This morning the German bank teller was also in green!
I hope everyone has a fun, and blessed day, as this is a day of quiet relection, church and visiting relatives in Ireland.

I have very little green, it's not in my color wheel, but I will find something and look sick all day! LOL.

Susan,

Thanks for dropping by. Good for you on both counts--volunteering at a hospital (I commend you for that) and wearing green :-)

Get Thee A Nom De Plume!

Good Evening One & All, Shakespeare wrote in Romeo & Juliet, "What's in a name?...A rose by any other name would smell as sweet." Disney talked about names in Aladdin in the lyrics, "Better get a nom de plume ." (the song, "One Jump"). So, for a writer, what does a nom de plume (or, pen name) say about the author? It could be a different spelling of the author's name, it could be a name that has a significance. They could keep their first name, but change the last, or change both. A pen name is also the name a writer will write under for his or her books. The name that his or her readers will recognize them. The name on the autographs and the one where people will say, "Oh yes, that's so and so, they wrote..." Some authors write under their own names. Others, for a variety of reasons, choose a pen name. What about you? Are you considering a pen name? What have you looked at when thinking of your nom de plume ? For myself, I&
