Who Do You Run With?

Happy Tuesday Everyone, Bet you never thought you'd see that on my blog, huh? "Bethany runs with lions? What in the world? Is she a safari fanatic and just didn't tell us?" No, I'm not a safari fanatic. In fact, I've never even been on a safari. It's just a reference to my novel, Surreal , which brings me to today's questions: Who do you run with? Who's company do you keep? What type of characters do you have running around in your head? Whether you're a reader, a writer, or both, you have all kinds of characters running in your head. Those characters are the people/creatures you run with. They are your company and companions through a story. They are your safari tour guides and help you navigate the world of the book you're either reading or writing. Sometimes those tour guides are all contemporary human beings. Sometimes they're extraordinary humans, like for example, knights in shining armor, wooing a damsel--the onl...

Making Friends With Betsy

Happy Wednesday Everyone, When I was growing up I read Maud Hart Lovelace's Betsy-Tacy Books:  Betsy-Tacy Betsy Tacy & Tib Betsy-Tacy Go Over Big Hill Betsy-Tacy Go Downtown Heavens To Betsy Betsy In Spite Of Herself Betsy Was A Junior Betsy And Joe Betsy And The Great World Years later, I found Betsy's Wedding and finally got to see Betsy happily married and settled. I now own all the books, including Betsy's Wedding and have read them at least once through, if not more since I got them a few years back. Growing up there were other series I got into, but I don't think I've read those series as much as I've read this one. To me, there's something incredibly personal about the fact that the characters and events bear a strong resemblance to the author, her friends and events in the author's life. It's part of the appeal. You feel like these characters are real. You want to be their friends. You want so badly to walk ...

Nice To Meet You

Happy Wednesday Folks, Today's post is going to tie into yesterday's interview I did with Laura Childs . I asked Laura if she could meet any of her characters, which ones and why. So, that's my question I'm posing today: Which character(s) out of any of your stories would you want to meet and why? I think I'd probably want to meet Bast. It would be fun. Maybe I'd meet Sir Beauregard (he's a cat in a story I never did finish and I don't know where that one ended up). I love cats. So, what about you? Which of your character(s) would you wanna meet and why?

Meet The Characters

Hi Everybody! I thought this would be a perfect time to introduce some of our favorite characters that we've created (whether you finished the manuscript or not) might we meet some of your favorite characters? (you don't even have to say what story they're from). Here's some of mine from various mss'es that I've either finished or still need to finish: Bast Cantrell -- loyal friend, humorous, supportive and madly in love with his wife (Alexia). A man, but can change into a jackal, he makes a good hunting partner to predators who live near him. The Fairies Of The Seasons--These little creatures (well not always little) are good guides when you're on a quest or in need of matchmaking purposes. They also are a bit on the mischevious side. Noelle "NJ" Manchester--Fiesty, independent and not given to "fairy tales". She's loved by her brothers and male friends--thought of as "one of the guys", but also has a feminine side. Pierre ...
