Happy Friday All, Sorry about not posting on Thursday. I was exhausted Wednesday evening, so I decided to just go to bed--then I was busy today, so I took the day off. I thought I'd cover age genre types and what they mean. Some people have asked me about genres. One question I got was, "What's YA?" So, I'll start with the youngest age group and work my way up (as a Romance author I'm going to talk a lot about that when I get to the adult section): Children's Books:   These are anything from infant to 7 years old. (Some bookstores will have a section that says:  "3-5 Year Olds") Typically you'll find board books and easy-to-reads. There's a lot of Disney books available in this section. Titles like Brown Bear What Do You See? Caps For Sale, Splat The Cat, Berenstin Bears, Thomas The Tank Engine, I've found a lot of Dr. Seuss books in this section as well. Happy Friday All, I don't know if you all were ever asked the question about why you write the genre you do. But, it's a good thing to contemplate. (I can't remember if I have been asked that one, myself). Genres, like anything else in the writing/publishing world, are part of the author's brand. It's how readers identify you (not just by name) among the sea of other authors. I write Paranormal Romance. Often I have elements of fantasy in them. Why? Well... I like the idea of making up my own world and having creatures that don't exist on my plane of reality. I like going beyond the real into the unreal (hence what my blog says). Elements of fantasy are in there because who doesn't like a little magic in their lives mixed in with the shape shifters, witches, vampires? Good Morning Folks! I'm excited...why? Well, years ago the only vampire fare available was stuff like Buffy or Anne Rice books, but now there's a whole slew of vampire/paranormal stuff with a whole range of emotions and stories. (And I'm not usually into vampire stuff) But now there's a lot of other options out there. There's several choices and routes in the whole paranormal world. It's a big genre. I've recently started Michelle Rowen's book, Lady And The Vamp and I went nuts right from the beginning. She's got he own spin on vampire things and I'm already hooked (only 13-14 pages into it!) Apparently it's the 3rd book in a series, and I didn't know that. I thought it was the first one, but I'm still enjoying it. Bitten And Smitten is the first one...but I can always go back and read that one. I might as well finish the one I've got since I'm already into it.
