Pop A Cork! It's Release Day...

Happy Wednesday Everyone, Wow! Can you believe it? It's release day for Perfect Love ! Perfect Love follows after the events in the first 3 books of the Immortal Dreams series ( Divine Love, Astral Love, Immortal Love ) and picks up several years after Immortal Love. Perfect Love is Hailey, Laney's best friend's story. When I wrote the first 3 books I didn't think about Hailey's story until Immortal Love . It was then I thought, "Hmm. I don't know. I might write Hailey's story. Some time. I better give myself a jumping off point." That's where her letter to Laney near the end of the novel comes in. I needed a place for Hailey's story to start. I thought some people might pick up on it, but I didn't think it would be a big deal. Imagine my surprise when nearly every reader asked me:  "Is Hailey an Immortal? Are you going to write her story, too?" I had toyed with the idea of writing Hailey's story, but I wa...

Sparkly Shoes, Movies, & Life...

Happy Thursday One & All, I won't be posting on Friday because of it being Good Friday. I know I don't post most days, so that's a "whatever", but I am trying to do more with the blog. Honest! I'm working on trying to find more ways to write in spite of the fact that the Averie Household is as hectic as ever. We have conquered the Death Ray Sinus and Respiratory infections--hurrah! We've even managed to get Real Life Hero a brand new suit--(he looks so good in it!) and new dress shirts and ties. I got a new skirt and sparkly new shoes (I got them because I have this other skirt that they'd be perfect for and I have a couple of events coming up that I want to be extra dressed up for. I don't normally get this fancy, but these events are fancy things). My computer or the website is being weird about pictures, so unfortunately this week, I don't have pictures on here. I have been writing--a little at a time (like I said, a lot going on...

Brain On Vacation

Happy Tuesday All, Sorry for being MIA so much. I've been having a lot of trouble lately coming up with blog post ideas. I'm doing okay, just lots of writer's block at the moment. I'm working on a solution, though. Until things get solved, I might be posting irregularly. Don't fret, I am around...I am checking email and I'm checking comments to see if there's any that need to be posted and answered. So keep coming back to check and see if there's a new post. Please also keep those positive thoughts and prayers going--I appreciate them! And thank you to everyone who's sent me an email asking about me. I appreciate your thoughtfulness! I do love hearing from my readers. Have A Terrific Tuesday!

SURPRISE!

Happy Wednesday Everybody, Wow, it's Wednesday already? Time flies when you're having fun. Or dealing with surprises... That's me. Dealing with surprises. In writing, that is. Some of my writing (and a current project) has taken me in a direction I didn't see myself going. But there are times writing will do that. And for now, it's helping me create and figure out what I'm doing with this project and the others I have going. Some authors start out writing one thing and branch out to two or three other areas. Like the Adult-novel writer who ends up writing YA or Mid-Grade...or all 3--adult, YA and Mid-grade. Or the person who starts out in Romance and finds themselves with a Thriller on their hands. Perhaps you began your writing with Contemporary and got lost in the fields of Fantasy. Maybe while you were shaking hands with a vampire then a cyborg jumped into your living room. Writing isn't always predictable, which if it was, would probably bor...

We Interrupt This Program For Updates

Happy Thursday Everyone, Let's see...updates... Well earlier this week I did some more editing on Surreal , so that's good. Ideas are simmering for some other stories. :-) We have several books coming out this April: Kim Lenox's 3rd book in the Shadow Guards series was released on April 6 th . Darker Than Night is now available for your reading pleasure. (I'll be getting that one! I've read the other two and I own them). [She has an excerpt up on her blog]. Richard Paul Evans also had a book released on April 6 th . The Walk is now available for your reading enjoyment. (I'll have to check it out, I've liked several of his books). Lynn Kurland will have a new book out on April 27, 2010 entitled One Enchanted Evening . (It's one of her de Piaget/ MacLeod books--love those books, so I'll have to pick it up!) CONTESTS: There's still time to take advantage of the early entry discount for the NWHRWA's Lone Star Contest! There's several ...

My Brain Ate It

Happy Tuesday One And All, The other day an idea for a story was "tickling" and "itching" at my brain. I kept thinking about different things to do with the idea, but nothing was "fleshing out". Finally, at night, I sat down in front of the keyboard and thought, "That's it, I have to flesh this idea out or else it's gonna make me crazy." I built up character names and some background information and began work on plot line ideas. I left enough holes for "wiggle room" and began writing. I'll probably chuck what I wrote (2 pages). I might even change one of the names, but at least I got started. What is it about inspiration and when it hits that you feel like you're twisted up in knots until the whole thing comes together? And if you don't get it down on paper, sometimes you lose that spark of inspiration, or an idea. So...flesh out the ideas, make yourself work it out. The rest of the details will come later, but wit...

Blank Pages

Hello All, Years ago, in high school (senior year) I worked on the school newspaper. I interviewed one of my favorite singing groups Lowen & Navarro . When I asked Dan Navarro about writing songs he said something like "...the agony of the blank page..." That's stuck with me ever since. What is it about blank pages that scare writers? We just can't deal with blank pages. We have to fill them up with our ideas. Sometimes it's easy and things flow and we have ourselves a ball...other times writer's block creeps in and we feel like we're in a corner being punished. There's nothing wrong with a blank page in and of itself. It means there's potential. There's anticipation. The sense that something is coming...even if we don't always know what that something is at first. Sure, as Dan Navarro pointed out, blank pages can be agonizing. Especially if we sit there feeling like we're ready and nothing comes. It's enough to cause hypervent...

Hereos & Villians

Morning All, Cleaning house today. Got parents and brother coming over for dinner and I'm not the most diligent housekeeper. Fortunately, I've made some progress. I've also made some progress on one of my writing projects, so yay! Anyway, onto today's topic: He's tall, dark and handsome. He's got a great sense of humor and takes good care of his woman. He's the hero. He's also my husband, but I refuse to share with anyone. Get your own husband, or rather, hero. While we're at it...get your own villain, too. What is it about heroes that make them heroes or villains that make them villains? For heroes, sometimes it's the whole larger than life, hunky, dreamy smile dude that makes the heroine melt into a puddle of goo. (Not quite my husband, but definitely close. He is hunky and I do love his smile). Or it could be the modest guy she didn't notice the first time she enters the room, yet his quiet manners catch her eye. Or maybe that dimple peeki...

Brainstorm!

Howdy Folks, Okay, I know, I go on and on about the RWA chapter I'm joining, but I can't say enough about how great these people are. I went to the Christmas party on Dec. 5th and it was a blast! I met this lady named Anne who writes paranormal and began talking to her about Conjure A Man and my frustration with Delaney. She and my wonderful CP, Tessy, started throwing out ideas. I sat there asking "Okay, but how would that work?" And answers came flying back. They thought I might have resented their input. But on the contrary, I was glad to have it. All I needed to do was figure out where it would go. So, now I'm re-reading the pages I have written (making any changes that jump out at me) and reassessing the situation. I also finally managed to send the revised Chapter 1 to Tessy (it's about time, I think!) Anyway, what do you all think about having a brainstorming session? Bring whatever you're having a problem with and I could post it in a post and we ...

Kicking Around Ideas

Good Morning One & All, So, have you ever seen those things...the t-shirts and pins that say stuff like "Be careful or else you'll end up in my novel" or "Be careful or else you'll end up in my blog". Pretty funny, but if you think about it, there's some truth in those quotes. We writers pull from practically anything and everything. Someone might say something really cool and overhearing it, the author in our heads says " Ooo ! Ooo ! Must remember that, totally awesome." And we're off and running on ideas. But, you know, sometimes someone says something awesome and our author brains can't help wondering "How would I work that into a story? Who would say that and why?" Click. Click. Click. Our minds become saturated with possibilities. Most of the time authors come up with their own dialogue and sayings, ideas, but every now and again we hear something that makes us sit up and pay attention--even closer than we were. You n...
