Do You Want To Be A Super-Hero?

Happy Wednesday Everybody,

Did everyone go check out author Katie McGarry's new YA Contemporary novel that was released yesterday? I got an e-book
copy of it and I'm well into the story. I really like it so far. Razor is complex and interesting, as is Breanna. This feels a lot like some of her previous work, and I'm thrilled about that. Nowhere But Here was good, but Walk The Edge is definitely better (in my opinion).

Okay, folks, raise your hand if you're a nerd/geek/dork...

Come on, don't be shy!

Just admit that you're a big fan of DC's Justice League, or Marvel's Avengers (or both, as in my case). Tell me you love Chris Helmsworth as Thor, and Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man in the movies makes you smile. Or maybe you're more into the comic books, or into something else entirely.

Batman, maybe?

I happen to be more of a fan of Super-Man, but that's just me. I do want to see Batman Vs. Super-Man. I'm curious as to how they play up the rivalry.

I don't plan to see the Suicide Squad movie. I'm not a huge fan of all that. However, it does look like they're putting a lot of thought and consideration to each character and that the actors are going to be superb.

My favorite depiction of Super-Man is Lois & Clark. This will not shock those who know me best. I'm hopelessly romantic, and that show played up the romance between the two of them and I loved that. I have two of the seasons on DVD (can you guess which 2 seasons? Hmm..., cue the Jeopardy! theme song).

I watched several seasons of Smallville, but lost interest after a while. While I'm a fan of several pieces of Tom Welling's work, I just wasn't too into the show.

I guess I'm more of a Marvel girl than a DC girl. Huge fan of X-Men movies (Patrick Stewart does a great job as Professor X. Of course, he pretty much does a great job whatever role he plays. Hugh Jackman IS Wolverine as far as I'm concerned. He embodied the role really well, and I did think that Ian McKellen's Magento was well done).

I also like Toby Maguire's depiction of Spider-Man. I wasn't as into the newer Spider-Man movies.

Funny side note:  When I saw Snow White And The Huntsman, every time Chris Helmsworth came on the screen I yelled out "Thor! Wait, where's his hammer? Oops, wrong movie!" (We watched it at home on DVD) my husband gave me a weird look for that, but as far as I'm concerned Chris Helmsworth will be Thor first and foremost in my mind. (P.S. I also said it to see what my husband would do. I thought his reaction was hilarious).

So what's your nerdy/geeky/dorky "guilty" (because I make no apologies for liking these things) pleasure?

Have A Wonderfully Whimsical Wednesday!

Calling All Heroes!

Happy Monday All,

What do you look for in a hero? Someone larger than life? Super-Man, maybe? *EDIT as of 9:37 a.m.:  (I'm talking about FICTIONAL heroes. As Tess points out in the comments there are real life heroes that make this world a better place, and they have my respect, admiration and gratitude for what they do, but for this post I'm talking about heroes in novels, I apologize for being unclear).

Or perhaps you're for someone a bit more "untouchable"--a little more "forbidding", like Mr. Darcy. Maybe you go for swashbuckling pirates like Captain Jack Sparrow.

One thing I was told about heroes is that they should be "larger than life".

Heroes do have to be believable but they aren't likely to necessarily be someone you'd meet walking down the street. I don't know about you, but I've never run into Edward Cullen (or any other vampire) as I walked out of my house (maybe I wasn't looking hard enough?) I have yet to meet Mr. Darcy at the grocery store (kind of the wrong time period). Or Captain Jack Sparrow anywhere (not that I'd want to, I'd rather read about pirates, not encounter them in real life).

Last time I saw a shape shifter was...never. So, yeah, in a sense they have to be larger than life and unrealistic. But they also have to be believable, someone people can relate to. Now granted, most of us aren't going to believe that a demigod is existing in our swimming pool, like Percy Jackson, but believable in that a person can suspend their disbelief. That is, they have traits we can relate to.

Heroes have to have some kind of honor code. Something that makes them heroic. For Darcy, one of the things that made him heroic was helping Elizabeth Bennett's sister--and saying he only thought of her while doing so. That's not only heroic, but entirely romantic. (Now you men understand why we women swoon when someone brings up Fitzwilliam Darcy).

For Edward Cullen, I'd say a heroic gesture on his part was how he prized Bella's humanity. He treasured it. He didn't treat her as expendable as the other human-blood drinking vampires were prone to doing, he and his "family" treated her humanity as something to guard.

I don't know enough about Captain Jack to say what makes him heroic.

My favorite heroes are the ones who did things because they are just so passionate over the heroine they couldn't help themselves. Yes, I'm that mushy-romantic. I'm sort of the "knight-in-shining armour" type heroes.

What defines a *edit as of 9:38 a.m.:  FICTIONAL or in a novel hero for you? (Like I said above, there's many real-life heroes I totally respect and agree that they truly DO make the world a better place, but I'm talking about fictional heroes that appear in novels, that's why I brought up Mr. Darcy, Captain Jack and Edward Cullen, rather than real-live people.  I apologize if I wasn't clear).

Have A Magnificent Monday!

A March Release & Superman

Happy Thursday Everyone,

Another author who had a March release is P.J. Mellor.

P.J. Mellor released her new erotica, Island Nights at Amazon and Amazon Kindle and Barnes & Noble .  (Island Nights was released on March 1st, so it's available).

Apparently March is a big month for releases this year. I know of at at least four or five (including the ones I've talked about in previous posts) not to mention others that you, my readers, know about.

Now...onto the question for the day:  What actor do you think makes the best Super-Man? (There's been several --you have to arrow down awhile to get to the DC Comics table and then it's in alphabetical order). (You'll have to forgive me, lately I've been watching my DVD set of Lois & Clark: Season 4--I definitely love a good romantic tale...but anyway, that's the reason for this particular question of the day).

Have A Thrilling Thursday!

Super Hero Writer To The Rescue!

Happy Monday All,

Do you like super-heroes? I do. I've liked watching their shows and some of their movies. It's fun to imagine "what if" I could do that? Or what if I knew someone who could?

So, I propose we authors have a superhero of our own. But that super-hero needs a name, a costume and powers.

I'm thinking super-sonic editing skills (edit an entire book in 3 seconds flat! It's all set and ready to go out to agents and publishers, who adore it)

What about super-strength to break through writer's block?

You all tell me what powers, costume, and name a super hero writer would have. Cape or no cape?

I'm thinking the super hero should be able to fly to the rescue of authors everywhere.

Have A Marvelous Monday!

Sept--Oh Wait, Oops...OCTOBER!

Happy Thursday! I know, I know. I missed posting a monthly update blog post in September (but hey, you got a book review from Brittany Fic...
