What To Call Yourself?

Happy Friday All,

I would've posted this earlier, but I wasn't feeling well last night. I'm doing better today, though. (YAY!)

Yesterday, NWHRWA's President, Jenn, was on Four Foxes One Hound Blog posting about calling oneself a writer. It's a great post, by the way, and I give Jeff (the hound) a lot of credit for hosting Jenn. She's smart and funny and most definitely a writer.

The other blog post I wanted to talk about was NWHRWA's Vice President, Stacey, being hosted by Jenn on Muse Tracks. Stacey is also very funny and smart. She and Jenn have a great dynamic working together to head up NWHRWA.

When I grow up I want to be a published author. I'm already an adult, so one down, one to go!

Question for the day:  What did you want to be when you grew up? Did you end up being what you wanted to be, or did you change your mind?

Have A Fantastic Friday!

Thanks for the plug, Bethany!
When I was little, I wanted to be a vet. Then a dear pet died. That nixed the whole idea. Then I wanted to be a horse jockey. Nope. Couldn't do that. I grew too tall (Though I'm only 5'5"). So then, as I blossomed into my teen years in the 80's, I decided I wanted to be either one of those babes in the rock music videos or be in the business scene of the music industry. I hit a little closer to home on this dream. I did both (And that's all I'm going to say about that!)
Anyway, I didn't know I wanted to be a writer until almost 4 years ago.

Thanks again, for the shout out, Bethany!

Jenn,

No problem. LOL I could see you as a "rocker" (whether in front or behind the camera) LOL Maybe at the April meeting? :-)

Hey Bethany- Thanks for the kind words about my first attempt at blogging. I'll be there every Thursday as I'm part of the Muse Tracks' team.
What did I want to be when I grew up? Well, it surely wasn't a rocker girl! Can you imagine me? Now Jenn, it so well suited with the long blonde hair and pretty eyes. No, I wanted to be an interior designer. I remember designing a house around a round bedroom. I even envisioned a custom round bed! Whew! Sounds a bit like a sleazy XXX movie.
After that, I wanted to be an artist and spent a few years taking lessons and then I wanted to be a doctor....no writer aspirations until a few years ago although I always dabbled at writing stories.

Stacey,

I have a friend who thought about interior design. She's got the right touch. I have a sister who studied art (she has another career, now).

Maybe one day we'll have Jenn's pirate stories and your romantic suspenses flying off the shelves :-)

Thanks for linking to my Hound Day blog, Bethany.
Jenn's appearance drew record crowds yesterday.
Sounds like y'all have a lot of fun down in the Houston area. We lived in Shreveport for about 26 years and some people consider that East Texas.

Jeff,

Hey thanks for dropping by!

Not a problem--it was a good post. When I had Kerrelyn Sparks on here I had a record amount of people come through.

Don't be a stranger...got several things planned for this blog...including an "official" book review, my monthly published author interview, and some other plans coming up later this year...there's a lot planned for this blog :-)

Hi, Bethany,
I was torn between wanting to be a famous writer or a spy. I'm glad I chose the 'write' path for my life!

It's Worth A Fortune

Happy Tuesday Everyone, Does anyone remember the song If I Had A Million Dollars by Barenaked Ladies ? I can't remember when or how I was first introduced to this song, but it's a fun song. So, how about if you had a million dollars? What would you do with it? Of course there's the responsible things to do with a million dollars--pay off debts, and such like that. Then there's the question of whether or not you give to charities, and how much. But, suppose you answered all those questions and you still had quite a lot left; what would you do with it? Maybe I'd go to Disney World. I've wanted to go, and I've never been able to. Or, perhaps I'd go to Germany and England, and Belgium (three of the countries my ancestors are from). Travel around seeing family and friends I don't see often. There's all kinds of possibilities. So, what about you? What would you do with a million dollars? Have A Tremendous Tuesday!

Spotlight On Author: Loretta Wheeler

Happy Tuesday Everyone, There's a gem of an author I've had the privilege of coming across...I'm talking about my friend, Loretta Wheeler. She's a sweetheart and very talented author. I enjoyed her YA Paranormal novella, The Pan Man immensely. And, she also writes Romance. So without further ado, come into my parlor and meet Loretta Wheeler: Me:  In your YA novelette, The Pan Man , you mention Pan's looking for his long lost soul mate. What made you choose Pan out of all the Greek/Roman gods and goddesses? Loretta:  I chose the Greek god Pan, because of the connection with the music. I found later on in the story, (my stories take over and write themselves usually) it applied even more than I realized because of the band's name. I won't mention the name of the band in here, because it's part of the surprise ending. Me:  You're mostly known for your Romance stories. How would you describe your writing style? Hot, suspenseful, sensual, sw...

Myths About Writers

Afternoon Folks, I thought we'd do a post to dispel some of the myths people seem to have about writers. I'll put the ones that first come to mind then y'all can chime in. Myth: Writing is a great way to make a lot of money. I'm not sure exactly how this one matriculated. Probably in the wake of some of the big best sellers (i.e. Stephen King, Anne Rice, Stephenie Meyer, JK Rowling, and the like) but most of the time writers put in more money for their writing than they do get out of it. Generally a writer doesn't make a ton of money unless somehow his/her book is a blockbuster hit and blasts through what the author owes in the advance (which is paid back to publishers through royalties). Most writers I've met and talked to are not millionaires. I'm not saying it can't happen, I'm saying it's not one of those things that's automatic. Myth: Writing Is Easy Anybody Can Do It. Okay, granted this isn't entirely a myth, but it's not ent...
