Muddled Literature

Good Morning Everybody,

Last night I had the strangest dream. I dreamt there was a play that was a combination of about 2 or 3 Shakespeare plays (including King Lear and A Mid-Summer's Night's Dream). Don't ask me how these two even remotely go together, but apparently anything can happen in dreams. (I'm not sure if there was a 3rd play mixed in there or what it was, but it's possible).

In the line of retelling stories...

I don't know if any of you have read Politically Correct Fairy Tales (I believe by James Finn Garner) but it's pretty funny. The prince, in Sleeping Beauty instead of marrying the princess decides to adopt something like the Lotus Position and meditate because he thinks that's what she's doing! LOL It's pretty funny. But it reminds me of my dream. Not exactly the stories you remember, but good for a laugh and entertainment.

I suppose I should say that the dream inspired me to great heights, but all it did was leave me with the proverbial desire to scratch my head and ask, "What was that?" I also don't know what my high school alma mater had to do with all that, and why it looked so different in my dreams, but that's unconscious thought for you.

Rarely do dreams inspire or influence my writing. Conjure A Man is the exception to that rule. It's loosely based off a dream I had, and inspiration that hit me immediately after I woke up.

What about you? Are your dreams as muddled as mine? Do they inspire you? Influence your writing in any way? Also, have you read any retellings of stories that made you laugh?

Have A Witty Wednesday!

I had a dream about my father last night. He died in May. I feel certain I had the dream because I've been planning a trip to Disneyland and my father went with us during Spring Break this year a month before he died.

Dreams I've always felt were a way for me to look at things differently. I think we can take things from our dreams and we might see something we might not have seen before.

J.J.--

I'm truly sorry about your father. Losing a loved one is never easy. But if the dream reminded you of loving and happy times then I think that's a good thing.

J.J.- so sorry about your father. That is a pain that I can't imagine.

I think dreams are healthy. Sometimes God will show us things in our dreams, or we get inspiration/ideas from our dreams.

Most of the time my dreams really make no sense at all to me and I barely remember them. When I was younger I used to dream so vividly that when I woke up I thought those things really happened. I once had a dream about breaking up with my high school boyfriend (deep down I wanted to). When I got to school I thought I'd really already done it and I ignored him for a few days thinking we were broken up. I didn't realize until days later that I hadn't really done it. My dream helped me use the right words when it was time to actually break up.

Weird, I know.

Wow Regina,

Talk about vivid! I once had a dream like that, though. I dreamt a friend of mine did something really awful to me (I don't remember what it was--it was something she'd NEVER do) and I woke up still mad at her. I had remind myself she didn't do anything.

Get Thee A Nom De Plume!

Good Evening One & All, Shakespeare wrote in Romeo & Juliet, "What's in a name?...A rose by any other name would smell as sweet." Disney talked about names in Aladdin in the lyrics, "Better get a nom de plume ." (the song, "One Jump"). So, for a writer, what does a nom de plume (or, pen name) say about the author? It could be a different spelling of the author's name, it could be a name that has a significance. They could keep their first name, but change the last, or change both. A pen name is also the name a writer will write under for his or her books. The name that his or her readers will recognize them. The name on the autographs and the one where people will say, "Oh yes, that's so and so, they wrote..." Some authors write under their own names. Others, for a variety of reasons, choose a pen name. What about you? Are you considering a pen name? What have you looked at when thinking of your nom de plume ? For myself, I&
