Alicia Rasley, The Weekend, & Information For You

Happy Monday All,

Hope everyone had a great weekend. I did...it was incredibly busy, which would account for the fact that I'm not yet mentally fully awake (the right amount of coffee will remedy that).

On Saturday, the NWHRWA hosted Alicia Rasley, who gave a wonderful all-day workshop on how to improve and vamp up your writing (it's no wonder she's so popular!) She was interesting, funny, fun and very informative. A bunch of us (myself included) have been raving about her ever since. (If you click on her name it'll take you to her website. She has a lot of information on her website, as well).

But an all-day workshop means I was wiped out.

Sunday I was still tired, but it was library day, which means I got to go see Valerie and Anthony (two librarians I've gotten to know, whom are both awesome). It was great to see them again and to chitchat.

Sunday I got together with a few members from NWHRWA to sit and talk about pitching in conjunction with the fabulous Pitch University. (If you're a writer and working on pitches and querying, check it out, it's really great and has a wealth of information; plus the lady who runs it is incredibly helpful). This week at Pitch U there's a chance to pitch to Christine Whittholn of Book Cents Literary Agency, LLC. Whom I got to hear at the NWHRWA's conference last year, and she's very informative and helpful. I didn't pitch to her then, but I know others who did and said they had a wonderful experience talking with her.

Romance Writers Of America (RWA), the National organization, is having its annual Conference. This year it's in New York City (in case you haven't already heard). I'm unable to go, but it looks like it's going to be an incredibly good conference. If you haven't already booked your reservation and hotel, you better hurry up. I hear it's filling up fast!

NWHRWA has a ton of things coming up. In March, we're going to have the absolutely awesome Christie Craig speaking. She's such a great public speaker and always has a ton of information (plus she's incredibly funny). NWHRWA already has its information up about the fall Conference (the conferences are always a fabulous experience). And, pretty soon, it'll be time for entries into the NWHRWA's annual Lone Star Contest.

Friday I have an author interview to post on here. I'm not going to reveal who, yet (that's a surprise), but believe me, you won't want to miss it. The author is wonderful!

On a side note, if you didn't get to read the weekend post about Friday's winner and everything, please do so. The Write By Bethany 25+ Followers Celebration Contest Event was a success, and I owe it to all the followers, the particpants, those who commented, and the donors--so again, THANK YOU!! You rock!

Anyway, this are going to be a bit slower this week, but I will be regularly posting and, I have several ideas for upcoming events, please stay tuned!

Have A Merry Monday!

Get Thee A Nom De Plume!

Good Evening One & All, Shakespeare wrote in Romeo & Juliet, "What's in a name?...A rose by any other name would smell as sweet." Disney talked about names in Aladdin in the lyrics, "Better get a nom de plume ." (the song, "One Jump"). So, for a writer, what does a nom de plume (or, pen name) say about the author? It could be a different spelling of the author's name, it could be a name that has a significance. They could keep their first name, but change the last, or change both. A pen name is also the name a writer will write under for his or her books. The name that his or her readers will recognize them. The name on the autographs and the one where people will say, "Oh yes, that's so and so, they wrote..." Some authors write under their own names. Others, for a variety of reasons, choose a pen name. What about you? Are you considering a pen name? What have you looked at when thinking of your nom de plume ? For myself, I...

Spotlight On Author: Loretta Wheeler

Happy Tuesday Everyone, There's a gem of an author I've had the privilege of coming across...I'm talking about my friend, Loretta Wheeler. She's a sweetheart and very talented author. I enjoyed her YA Paranormal novella, The Pan Man immensely. And, she also writes Romance. So without further ado, come into my parlor and meet Loretta Wheeler: Me:  In your YA novelette, The Pan Man , you mention Pan's looking for his long lost soul mate. What made you choose Pan out of all the Greek/Roman gods and goddesses? Loretta:  I chose the Greek god Pan, because of the connection with the music. I found later on in the story, (my stories take over and write themselves usually) it applied even more than I realized because of the band's name. I won't mention the name of the band in here, because it's part of the surprise ending. Me:  You're mostly known for your Romance stories. How would you describe your writing style? Hot, suspenseful, sensual, sw...
