Mermaids, Mythology & Relaxing

Happy Monday All,

I finished reading over the weekend Fins Are Forever by Tera Lynn Childs. As with the first one, Forgive My Fins I loved it. I wonder if she's going to have a third mermaid book (I hope so) but I don't know and her FAQ hasn't been updated to say yes or no about it. Love these two books, by the way. They're a lot of fun!

Last week I finished reading Josephine Angelini's Starcrossed. I can hardly wait for the sequel, but I heard it's not out until next year. I can tell you, that's one I will definitely be planning on reading again. I heard about Starcrossed on A Cupcake And A Latte (Mocha Latte Reads) Blog (A YA Review Site).  Starcrossed is kind of a retelling of the Helen Of Troy story from The Iliad. It's updated and modernized for YA audiences. It focuses on the notion that the three Fates like to replay the story over and over throughout history.
Anyone who's into Greek/Roman Mythology I recommend you give this novel a chance and seriously check it out. I was fascinated with the author's imagination in reinventing this story. Would Homer be proud? I don't know, I never met the guy, but he just might be intrigued if he read it.


This past weekend I got to hang out with a friend of mine. It was a lot of fun and a great way to relax.

I was alone most of the week, as I guess I told you.I made major stides in getting my entire house in good order...felt good.But when Itook breaks, well, guess what I did?READ,of course! I downloaded a few stories/books from Astraea Press from $1.99-3.00; the proceeds are going to charity disaster relief, so I thought I'd give them a shot.One, 'Matching Wits With Venus' by Theresa Gilardi is quite long and I have not finished it.I especially enjoyed the 'haunting'-ly lovely 'Hawthorne' by Sarah Ballance.(You have me reading more romance novels, Bethany!)There was one I was not overly impressed with, but it was OK, I mean, for charity, right? And it was a diversion from pulling things out from under beds, climbing up on ladders into closets...

LOL good! Since so many authors I know write Romance I'm delighted you're supporting them by reading their work.

That's cool you got so much done! That's awesome.

Enjoy the Romance genre. It's very diverse and I believe has something for just about every reader.

Happy Tuesday Everyone, Does anyone remember the song If I Had A Million Dollars by Barenaked Ladies ? I can't remember when or how I was first introduced to this song, but it's a fun song. Spotlight On Author: Loretta Wheeler

Happy Tuesday Everyone, There's a gem of an author I've had the privilege of coming across...I'm talking about my friend, Loretta Wheeler. She's a sweetheart and very talented author. I enjoyed her YA Paranormal novella, The Pan Man immensely. And, she also writes Romance. So without further ado, come into my parlor and meet Loretta Wheeler: Me:  In your YA novelette, The Pan Man , you mention Pan's looking for his long lost soul mate. What made you choose Pan out of all the Greek/Roman gods and goddesses? Loretta:  I chose the Greek god Pan, because of the connection with the music. Myths About Writers

Afternoon Folks, I thought we'd do a post to dispel some of the myths people seem to have about writers. I'll put the ones that first come to mind then y'all can chime in. Myth: Writing is a great way to make a lot of money. I'm not sure exactly how this one matriculated. Probably in the wake of some of the big best sellers (i.e. Stephen King, Anne Rice, Stephenie Meyer, JK Rowling, and the like) but most of the time writers put in more money for their writing than they do get out of it. Generally a writer doesn't make a ton of money unless somehow his/her book is a blockbuster hit and blasts through what the author owes in the advance (which is paid back to publishers through royalties). Most writers I've met and talked to are not millionaires. I'm not saying it can't happen, I'm saying it's not one of those things that's automatic. Myth: Writing Is Easy Anybody Can Do It.
