Construction Ahead: Interal Editors At Work

Hello Everyone,

Well, it appears that currently my job is editing. I had to take out some things I had on the blog margins (Encouragement of the Day, Movie Recommendations and a few other things) in an effort to fix the spacing problems I was having (don't know if you all saw the problem, but it kept showing up on my screen, so I finally got sick of it and decided to do something about it). I'm not sure how that all happened, but I've fixed it. If you really miss the things I took out, I'll see about putting them in at another time.

I'm also deep in edits on Surreal. I know, I've talked about being disciplined about working on it for awhile, now, and I've finally gotten into it where I'm focused on it. The other manuscripts in the process of writing are on hold while I work solely on editing Surreal.

So far it's going smoothly. I'm getting the word count down (a must) and fixing other things (also important). I'm reminding myself how much I love this story in the process. There's things I forgot about it when I was working on other parts and it's nice to reacquaint myself with the story and characters.

Working on edits isn't as bad as I feared. Yes, it takes a lot of time and yes, you have to keep going back over things you went over 5 times before, but it also helps you get to know your story even better than you knew it before. It helps you understand more what works and what doesn't. It also gives you a chance to review possibilities and things you might not have considered when you first wrote the piece.

It's more exciting than I thought, because it's made everything so much more real for me. No longer is this whole "tighten up the story and get it ready" some vague idea...it's happening. I'm doing it. It's not a dream anymore, I'm going for it. Sure, there's always that sense of "I hope things go well." And I'll be nervous when I send Surreal off, but there's a real sense of accomplishment involved.

This is something I've dreamt about for several years. Now, the dream is steadily becoming more and more of a reality. There's something really special about that.

I hope any of you out there going through this get that same sense of how thrilling it all is. I want to hold onto this feeling and share it with you.

Enjoy your journey :-)

Have A Wonderful Wednesday!

Congrats on getting into edits and it not being too overwhelming. And, yeah, I hate what blogger sometimes does w/ spacing.

Get Thee A Nom De Plume!

Good Evening One & All, Shakespeare wrote in Romeo & Juliet, "What's in a name?...A rose by any other name would smell as sweet." Disney talked about names in Aladdin in the lyrics, "Better get a nom de plume ." (the song, "One Jump"). So, for a writer, what does a nom de plume (or, pen name) say about the author? It could be a different spelling of the author's name, it could be a name that has a significance. They could keep their first name, but change the last, or change both. A pen name is also the name a writer will write under for his or her books. The name that his or her readers will recognize them. The name on the autographs and the one where people will say, "Oh yes, that's so and so, they wrote..." Some authors write under their own names. Others, for a variety of reasons, choose a pen name. What about you? Are you considering a pen name? What have you looked at when thinking of your nom de plume ? For myself, I...

Spotlight On Author: Loretta Wheeler

Happy Tuesday Everyone, There's a gem of an author I've had the privilege of coming across...I'm talking about my friend, Loretta Wheeler. She's a sweetheart and very talented author. I enjoyed her YA Paranormal novella, The Pan Man immensely. And, she also writes Romance. So without further ado, come into my parlor and meet Loretta Wheeler: Me:  In your YA novelette, The Pan Man , you mention Pan's looking for his long lost soul mate. What made you choose Pan out of all the Greek/Roman gods and goddesses? Loretta:  I chose the Greek god Pan, because of the connection with the music. I found later on in the story, (my stories take over and write themselves usually) it applied even more than I realized because of the band's name. I won't mention the name of the band in here, because it's part of the surprise ending. Me:  You're mostly known for your Romance stories. How would you describe your writing style? Hot, suspenseful, sensual, sw...
