Contest Day: Fabulously Fine Friday

THIS CONTEST IS OFFICIALLY CLOSED!

Happy Friday All,

Today marks the last day of the Write By Bethany 25+ Followers Celebration week. I'm grateful to everyone who donated a prize, participated, passed the word along--y'all rock!

Yesterday's winner was Sarah. So congratulations to Sarah! You'll be receiving your swag from Christie as soon as she can send it. Hope you enjoy your prize and thank you to everyone who participated.

Hope y'all are ready for today because we have a wonderful prize for you all, donated by the very talented MaryJanice Davidson. I interviewed MaryJanice and Anthony Alongi in July of 2010. (Hey, did anyone catch on that all the prizes have been donated by a published author I interviewed last year? That was on purpose).

The prize is an audio book of MaryJanice's novel, Me, Myself & Why that was published last year.

So here's how today will be run:

FIRST:  Of course, give me your first name (or nickname).

SECOND:  You must give me your email address. (it's just easier for me to know who you are--even if I have it, I might know more than one person by your first name).

THIRD:  For Fun:  If you were a were-dragon what would you like most about changing into a dragon? (Today's fun question ties into the story MaryJanice Davidson and Anthony Alongi's Jennifer Scales Novels).

One entry per person. The contest closes today at 9:30 p.m. Central Time (that's 7:30 p.m. Pacific and 10:30 p.m. Eastern).

Please make sure your emails are open to receiving email from bethany.averie@yahoo.com as this is how I'll let the winner know they won.

I'll announce the winner publicly on here either Saturday or Sunday, in a special post (since I normally don't post on the weekends).

If you have any questions, please email me.

Have A Fabulous Friday!

I have always wanted to fly. Can you immagine swooping and soaring over the land? I know, in dreams this has some meaning about how messed up you are. If you know, don't tell me. I happy the way I am.

I think that I would like to breathe fire if I were a were-dragon. Being able to fly around, swoop down, and scorch your enemies could really come in handy!

The flying hands down would be amazing. The view from up there going over lakes and mountains. I mean wow it would be so beyond cool.

I would love the ability to fly. I would be a gentle dragon, flying amongst the butterflies as well as the clouds. I would also rescue princesses from evil Queens and Witches. A flower fairy would keep my nest clean and pretty while a sprite would bring me. I would sorta be their pet :)

I would want to change into a water dragon because then I could breathe underwater and swim with dolphins and sharks and explore the true beauty of what lies beneath the ocean. I would also be a kind dragon that would try to help someone if they were drowning or stranded on a boat and needed help. I would save them and take them to dry land. The great thing about being a were-dragon would be that I could change back into my human form and help nurse them back to health and I could appreciate the feeling of knowing that I did a good deed.

Not sure what a were-dragon is, but once I changed into a dragon, I'd love the feeling of flying and being able to see for miles and miles.

I would love the shimmer of my scales as the light of a setting sun hits them and watching them change. I would also love the power/strength/force I would have, though I wouldn't use it, but knowing that it's there would be enough.

The best part about changing into a dragon would be my looks. Every time my daughter would bring someone home, whether it be for introductions, or picking her up for a date, I would make the change, and scare the crap out of him.

At that point, I wouldn't have to worry about the whole kissing on the first date thing, the whole who's going to take her virginity, or anything like that.

In fact, even though she would tell them that I might be a dragon on the outside, I'm really just a big pussycat on the inside, but one look at my razor sharp teeth, and they wouldn't believe a single word.

Of course, there is the great financial aspect of it all. No more having to pay for utilities, since I'd be eating most, if not all, of my meals raw. No utilities to keep the meat frozen, or refrigerated, since I'd be eating it right away, no gas bills or electric bills, since there would be no cooking involved, and no storage fees.

I would be able to eat any meat...

Cattle, Pork (The other White Meat), Sheep/Goats, drunken midgets, and sauced clowns, the whole nine yards.

Sure, the flying would be a bonus, but no entirely necessary. I mean, after all, who the heck is going to deny me a ride to 7-Eleven for a slushy for my daughter. Heck, I even live just off of a major cross street, so flagging them down would be no problem.

Oh, and say I wanted to cook my meals. I do breathe fire, right?

I think there would be two things that would be great if I could change into a were dragon.
First I would never have to workout again! No more getting up and wearing myself out before the day has even started. Not to mention probably no need to diet. Lets face it, have you ever seen a dragon that was out of shape??
Second, I think it would be nice to be the protector of people who need your help. I would be a good dragon.

I think it would depend on if I was a boy dragon or a girl dragon (I haven't read any books where the were-dragon is a girl). If I were a boy dragon, I think it would be my impressive wing span...If I were a girl dragon--I just don't know?
Anna Kathryn Lanier saidā€¦
What a great question. I really needed to read the other answers to get an idea of what I'd enjoy most about being a ware-dragon, because I hadn't thought of it before. But I'm likeing the flying idea. That would be very cool.

I would love the gold hoarding the most, of course!
Mountains of gold! Muahahahahaha.
I'd also run around, coughing like crazy, telling everyone 'I have the black lung'

Zoolander Dragon, that would be me!
Bethany saidā€¦
Susan,

Yeah, I wouldn't want to know the meaning of my dreams either...although sometimes I wonder.

Thank you for your entry! I've got your name in the box for tonight's drawing :-)
Bethany saidā€¦
Crystal,

I don't have too many enemies I want to scorch, but I think the military would find weredragons handy.

Thank you for your entry! I've got your name in the box for tonight's drawing :-)
Bethany saidā€¦
Cheryl,

The view WOULD be incredible. Hope nobody who'd fly was afraid of heights. That would really cramp a person's style. LOL

Thank you for your entry! I've got your name in the box for tonight's drawing :-)
Bethany saidā€¦
Colleen,

I like your answer. Probably would be a pretty good life as a weredragon to belong to a nice fairy and spirte.

Thank you for your entry. I've put your name in the box for tonight's drawing :-)
Bethany saidā€¦
Alicia,

Breathing ice would be fun. That puts me in mind of that anime that was once popular--"Yu-Gi-Oh!" there was a white dragon that I think breathed ice.

Thank you for your entry! I've put your name in the box for tonight's drawing :-)
Bethany saidā€¦
Jennifer,

Very cool! That would be extremely helpful, especially to the Coast Guard! (By the way, awesome you have the same first name as the Jennifer in MaryJanice and Anthony's series!)

Thank you for your entry! I've put your name in the box for tonight's drawing :-)
Bethany saidā€¦
Melissa,

A weredragon (as far as MaryJanice Davidson and Anthony Alongi's series are concerned) is a person who changes into a dragon every crescent moon. Jennifer Scales has the advantage of being the "Ancient Furance" so she has special abilities the others don't have.

The scenery would be spectacular from the air, wouldn't it?

Thank you for your entry! I have your name in the box for tonight's drawing :-)
Bethany saidā€¦
Mary Beth,

That extra power would be nice to know it was there if you needed it!

Thank you for your entry! I have your name in the box for tonight's drawing :-)
Bethany saidā€¦
Victor,

Your entry made me laugh and smile. I love your take on protecting your daughter, that's really awesome. (I know a few guys who feel the same way). I don't have a daughter, but if I did, I think I like your approach--although, having been a teenager girl (at one point) I think she'd resent you for scaring off her dates like that LOL

P.S. I believe you have the honor of being the first male to enter my contests!

Thank you for your entry! I put your name in the box for tonight's drawing :-)
Bethany saidā€¦
Laura,

I like your approach--never have to work out again. Wouldn't flying take care of that? I also like you'd be a good dragon.

Thank you for your entry! I put your name in the box for tonight's drawing :-)
Bethany saidā€¦
Tessy,

In the "Jennifer Scales Novels" by MaryJanice Davidson and Anthony Alongi there are several female weredragons. When you said "impressive wingspan" I thought of "Toy Story" where the piggy bank says to Buzz Lightyear: "Oh, impressive wingspan!"

Thank you for your entry! I put your name in the box for tonight's drawing :-)
Bethany saidā€¦
Anna,

Yeah, several of the people who've entered said they liked the idea of flying.

Thank you for your entry! I've put your name in the box for tonight's drawing :-)
Bethany saidā€¦
Gunna,

I never saw "Zoolander" so I wouldn't exactly know what you're referring to, but your comment made me laugh!

Definitely being able to fly would be the best thing about changing into a dragon. I've always had a thing for wings.

Suzan,

I know what you mean! In this weather breathing fire would come in handy--we could clear the roads of ice/snow!

Thank you for your entry! I put your name in the box for tonight's drawing :-)

Peggye,

As a kid, I'd make believe I could fly. Always thought it was really cool watching superheroes and fairies fly, so I understand your attraction to wings/flying.

I think being a dragon would be fun...you could fly. Live in a cave up HIGH where no noise would bother you & the wind would whip around you , be able to create your own fire (without matches, LOL). FREEDOM

Cindy,

A LOT of people like the possibility of flying. I don't know that I'd want to live in a cave away from everyone, but I suppose while you're a dragon you might not mind.

Thank you for your entry! I've put your name in the box for tonight's drawing :-)

Flying, of course, but also the raw power that comes along with being such a large, fearsome beastie. I could totally put an end to the world's problems with that kind of power.

mbennett0528@yahoo.com

The best part of being a were-dragon is being a part of two worlds--the human world and the supernatural world. When I am tired of one life, I can change and be something else for a while; or depending on the situation, I could use the strengths of each world to my advantage. Do I need human intuition and sentiment or animal instinct and strength to get me through whatever is happening?
Bethany saidā€¦
Sarah,

Those 2 things seems to be the popular choices.

Thank you for your entry! I've put your name in the box for tonight's drawing :-)

Jamie-jgoodey6@yahoo.com dragons are beatiful with all there differant colors, they live very very long lives, the whole fire thing is good of course, they love collecting gold and jewels, very strong able to completely defend themselves, capable of Mating flights which is COOL a little dangerous which comes with the territory!! Some are healers. I love they would probably mate for life!! Being a creature that has these ablities with such a long live to enjoy would be my favorite part!! DRAGONS are cool!!

Get Thee A Nom De Plume!

Good Evening One & All, Shakespeare wrote in Romeo & Juliet, "What's in a name?...A rose by any other name would smell as sweet." Disney talked about names in Aladdin in the lyrics, "Better get a nom de plume ." (the song, "One Jump"). So, for a writer, what does a nom de plume (or, pen name) say about the author? It could be a different spelling of the author's name, it could be a name that has a significance. They could keep their first name, but change the last, or change both. A pen name is also the name a writer will write under for his or her books. The name that his or her readers will recognize them. The name on the autographs and the one where people will say, "Oh yes, that's so and so, they wrote..." Some authors write under their own names. Others, for a variety of reasons, choose a pen name. What about you? Are you considering a pen name? What have you looked at when thinking of your nom de plume ? For myself, I...

Spotlight On Author: Loretta Wheeler

Happy Tuesday Everyone, There's a gem of an author I've had the privilege of coming across...I'm talking about my friend, Loretta Wheeler. She's a sweetheart and very talented author. I enjoyed her YA Paranormal novella, The Pan Man immensely. And, she also writes Romance. So without further ado, come into my parlor and meet Loretta Wheeler: Me:  In your YA novelette, The Pan Man , you mention Pan's looking for his long lost soul mate. What made you choose Pan out of all the Greek/Roman gods and goddesses? Loretta:  I chose the Greek god Pan, because of the connection with the music. I found later on in the story, (my stories take over and write themselves usually) it applied even more than I realized because of the band's name. I won't mention the name of the band in here, because it's part of the surprise ending. Me:  You're mostly known for your Romance stories. How would you describe your writing style? Hot, suspenseful, sensual, sw...
