Idea Machine

Afternoon All,

I have a friend who told me he always has a ton of ideas running around in his head. In fact, my suggestion to him to write something special for his wife triggered an idea in his head. I was impressed. I don't always have a ton of ideas jumping around in my head.

But it's good to have ideas. It's good to exercise your imagination and see where it takes you. For example, I've got 3 novels in the process of being written...all different from each other, but definitely all take an imagination to continue. Not to mention the one in editing also takes having an imagination.

So, what about you? How does your "idea machine" kick around? Do you go off to fairy tale places? Alternate realities, parallel universes, or into the great beyond like in Star Trek or Star Wars?

Like Star Trek, we writers must be unafraid to "Boldly Go Where No Man Has Gone Before".

You let your imagination take you off to far off places, or even just around the block. Don't be afraid...it's your chance to fly!

Have A Tremendous Tuesday!

Normally I don't have too many ideas swirling around in the void, but the ones I do have are fairly high concept (at least I think they are).

Sometimes I have a lot of ideas...other times...nothing. When I do get an idea I write it down on whatever is handy so I have a collection of post-it notes, envelopes, and bits of scrap paper in a folder.

It works for me.

Any little thing can trigger an AHAA moment. You just have to be open to it.

I have a bunch of stuff circulating all day long in my head. My problem is selecting the ideas I'd be good at and pursuing them fully to the end.

I've decided to store reminders and notes in my phone to help me make things happen. We'll see. It is semi-working so far.

Marsha,

So true! The old adage of a writer carrying around paper and pen rings true, huh?

Regina,

Nice to see you around, again :-) Good idea, using the phone to remind you of ideas :-) Best wishes!

Get Thee A Nom De Plume!

Good Evening One & All, Shakespeare wrote in Romeo & Juliet, "What's in a name?...A rose by any other name would smell as sweet." Disney talked about names in Aladdin in the lyrics, "Better get a nom de plume ." (the song, "One Jump"). So, for a writer, what does a nom de plume (or, pen name) say about the author? It could be a different spelling of the author's name, it could be a name that has a significance. They could keep their first name, but change the last, or change both. A pen name is also the name a writer will write under for his or her books. The name that his or her readers will recognize them. The name on the autographs and the one where people will say, "Oh yes, that's so and so, they wrote..." Some authors write under their own names. Others, for a variety of reasons, choose a pen name. What about you? Are you considering a pen name? What have you looked at when thinking of your nom de plume ? For myself, I...

Spotlight On Author: Loretta Wheeler

Happy Tuesday Everyone, There's a gem of an author I've had the privilege of coming across...I'm talking about my friend, Loretta Wheeler. She's a sweetheart and very talented author. I enjoyed her YA Paranormal novella, The Pan Man immensely. And, she also writes Romance. So without further ado, come into my parlor and meet Loretta Wheeler: Me:  In your YA novelette, The Pan Man , you mention Pan's looking for his long lost soul mate. What made you choose Pan out of all the Greek/Roman gods and goddesses? Loretta:  I chose the Greek god Pan, because of the connection with the music. I found later on in the story, (my stories take over and write themselves usually) it applied even more than I realized because of the band's name. I won't mention the name of the band in here, because it's part of the surprise ending. Me:  You're mostly known for your Romance stories. How would you describe your writing style? Hot, suspenseful, sensual, sw...
